Recognition standards

These are public summary standards. Command may request supporting documentation or additional review before final disposition.

Trooper ValorExtraordinary heroism involving an immediate and substantial risk of death or serious injury to protect another person.
Distinguished GallantryConspicuous courage during a dangerous incident that substantially exceeds normal expectations of duty.
LifesavingDirect action reasonably determined to have saved or substantially contributed to saving a life.
Wounded in Line of DutyQualifying injury directly resulting from hostile or criminal action during official duty.
Distinguished ServiceExceptionally distinguished performance with major and lasting benefit to ASP or public safety.
Meritorious ServiceExceptional leadership, initiative, achievement, or service substantially beyond normal expectations.

Command CommendationOutstanding performance, leadership, initiative, or handling of a significant assignment or incident.
Trooper CommendationA specific act of noteworthy professional performance, judgment, initiative, or assistance.
AchievementA significant project, operation, assignment, training initiative, or measurable departmental accomplishment.
Unit CitationExceptional collective performance by a qualifying ASP unit, post, detail, team, or task force.
Exemplary ConductSustained professionalism, integrity, dependability, and adherence to ASP standards.
Academy ExcellenceExceptional overall performance during the Trooper Academy.

Field Training OfficerSuccessful completion of FTO certification and formal appointment as an active Field Training Officer.
Firearms ExpertAchievement and maintenance of ASP's highest approved firearms qualification classification.
Criminal InterdictionExceptional lawful proactive interdiction resulting in significant enforcement or investigative outcomes.
Traffic Safety EnforcementSustained exceptional contribution to highway safety and crash-reduction efforts.
Community ServiceExceptional service to communities beyond ordinary enforcement responsibilities.
Special Operations ServiceSignificant qualifying service during an authorized special operation or specialized deployment.

State Emergency ServiceQualifying ASP service during an officially designated state emergency or major disaster response.
Recruitment ExcellenceExceptional contribution to ASP recruitment or sustained assigned recruitment work.
